L'Entrecote (Suntec City)

Entrecote is a French word for premium cut of beef used for steaks, which corresponds to what we know as rib eye steak. L'Entrecote opened its first outlet at Duxton hill, featuring only one main course and numerous starters and desserts to complete the meal.

L'Entrecote opened its second outlet at Suntec City Mall in September 2013, but I have not had the chance to dine there until today. Taking advantage of it's Lunch Special menu, I decided to give it a try.

I am not much of a salad person. I know it's healthy, but I really don't see what's the fun in chomping on raw vegetables like a rabbit. This is supposed to be Walnut Green Salad, but I can hardly see any walnuts. The balsamic vinegar dressing used is too pungent, I would think some extra-virgin olive oil would be better suited for this salad.

This is the famous Entrecote Steak & Fries. If a restaurant can flourish with just this one main course, I am expecting that this steak must be exceptionally good. I was not disappointed. The steak is well-grilled till the outer layer is a little crusty, but the medium-rare steak is juicy and tender on the inside. The steak has been cut before serving, it is a thoughtful gesture allowing diners to enjoy the meal without having to saw away at the meat.
Doctor Chong claims that their fries is one of the best he has eaten and he is not exaggerating. The fries are fried till a perfect golden colour and each piece is equally crispy yet light enough that you do not feel stuffed even after finishing half a plate of this delicious side.

I can't say that L'Entrecote serves the best steak in Singapore because I have not tried enough steaks to be able to make that judgement with confidence, but it is definitely worth the price you are paying for.

  1. Glad to see another medium rare steak fan.

Is this a steak au poivre? I feel like I should learn more about French cooking, since this is part of my families heritage. Now to search for some recipes :) I'm pretty sure beef is my #1 favorite meat, haha.

  2. I like both mutton and beef, but my favourite is still the former, probably because I was raised in Northern China, where mutton helps to keep our body warm in the harsh winter.

    1. Ah, that's interesting. I'm not sure if I've ever had mutton, though I've had lamb many times and enjoyed it. Would you say it's similar in taste?

    2. Mutton is more tough and generally used for soup and stews. Lamb is tender, good for grilling. They are similar in taste, but different in texture. I enjoy eating both :)
