Spice Cafe

Spice Cafe's Harvest of the Sea Buffet Dinner at Concorde Hotel promises a magnificent seafood spread. Stella has a memorable dining experience a few years back, so we decided to have our pre-Christmas dinner here.

The plush sofa seats looks very comfortable and posh.

Baked Half Lobster (200g) With Cheese is one of the complimentary items that comes with the Harvest of the Sea Buffet Dinner. The lobster is very fresh and so full of succulent flesh. Baked with cheese, the sweetness of the combines perfectly with the creaminess of the cheese.

Braised Baby Abalone With Broccoli And Mushroom is the other complimentary item that comes with the Harvest of the Sea Buffet Dinner. The baby abalone is flavourful and cooked just right.

We got to try all 5 types of crabs available. Chilli Crab, Salted Egg Crab, Thai Curry with Basil Leave Crab, Butter and White Pepper Crab, Black Pepper Crab (left to right, top to bottom). The best of the 5 is the Thai Curry with Basil Leave Crab, where the fragrance of Thai curry and basil leave compliments the freshness of the crab.

Baked Seafood in Cheese & Tomato Sauce - The sauce is quite alright but the seafood are very dry.

Crab Meat Sauce with Vegetable - This is a simple dish made special with crab meat. It is healthy and delicious.

Lamb Chop with Black Pepper Sauce - This is one of the better dishes where the black pepper sauce compliments the lamb chop rather well and lamb chop is of the right texture.

Roasted Turkey with Giblet Gravy and Cranberry Sauce - Turkey is rather tasteless.

Satay - Both satays and rice are quite dry, not at all appetising.

Stir-Fried Clam with Onion & Ginger - There is still sand in the clams. Unbelievable.

Stir-Fried Cuttlefish with "Kang Po" Sauce - The cuttlefish is just a little overcooked.

Stir-Fried Tiger Prawn with Black Pepper Sauce - I would never have guessed they were meant to be tiger prawns because they looked so shrivelled.

I am really quite disappointed with the cooked foods. Everything is of sub-standard.

Soups available are Creamy Chicken Corn and Dried Scallop with Crab Meat Soup.

DIY Salad Station - Didn't get to try this but eveything looks very fresh.

Fruits Station - There are fresh fruits and dried fruits.

Mixed Salad Station - The salads are well-seasoned.

Seafood Station - This is my favourite and also the star of the buffet.

Cheese Station  - The cheeses look good, but I didn't get the chance to try them.

Dessert Station - It looks like there is a lot of desserts, but in actual fact there is only 4-5 types of desserts to choose from, and the chocolate log cake is about the only decent dessert of the lot.

Pandan Fondue - I have never heard of such a thing, it is definitely a new creation. The fragrance of pandan is mild and it is excessively sweet.

Ice-Cream Station - The flavours available are chocolate, yam, strawberry and mango. They are really more like sorbet than ice-cream. There are various sauces and candies decorate.

Christmas Plum Pudding - It looked so dry, I decided to give it a miss.

I have to say, I am more than a little disappointed. Everything looked so good, but the standard of food is just not quite there yet. It is still a buffet worth a try, just don't put your hopes up too high.
