Real Food

It seemed that all of a sudden, everyone around me is talking about Real Food. Everyone is telling me how "the food is so good, you don't even miss the meat" as Toby from the yoga class puts it.

Real Food has been around for a while now with 3 outlets in Singapore and 1 outlet in Penang. Real Food is run by a team of passionate and stubborn individuals who believe that we are what we eat.

The menu consists of everything from all day breakfast and sandwiches to pasta/pizza and organic coffee/tea. There is something for everyone.

Besides cooked foods, Real Food also features a merchandise area stocked with organic goods.

Organic Cocoa takes a bit of getting used to because it is not as creamy and thick as the hot chocolate I normally have, probably because it is a blend of organic fair trade raw cacao and soy milk.

Super Green Detox is really ... green. It is a mixture of tritox (wheatgrass, barleygrass, chlorella), mix berries, kale, spinach, lime and soy milk. It doesn't look very appetising but it's actually quite tasty. People who want a thorough detoxification should definitely try this.

Pumpkin Soup is recommended by the nice lady at the cashier and we are so glad we ordered it because it tastes heavenly. It fills your mouth with the healthy sweetness of pumpkin, onions and celery. It is a far cry from The Soup Spoon's weird-tasting Pumpkin Soup.

Portobello Mushroom with Cheese sounded amazing and it tastes pretty amazing too. Huge portobello mushroom is stuffed with minced vegetables and covered with cheddar cheese. It is served with sprouts, potato salad and vegan mayonnaise. The cheddar cheese lends a creamy taste to the dish while the stuffed portobello mushroom provides the juiciness.

It is really the feta cheese that made Stella order Spinach Tomato Pasta because she loves the creamy cheese. I personally find the homemade tomato sauce a little too sour but Stella seems to have no problem with it. The boiled organic English spinach gives you a healthy serving of greens.

Organic Pizza is picture-perfect. Handmade thin crust is topped with homemade tomato paste and a generous amount of bell peppers and mushrooms, everything held in place by aromatic mozzarella cheese. I love the super thin crust which is very crispy and the knowledge that I can enjoy such a delightful pizza without guilt is liberating.

I can't say that I don't miss my meat or I am going to become a vegetarian anytime soon, but it is fascinating to taste the vegetarian version of the foods we are used to and realise that it's not so bad after all.
