Da Luca Italian Restaurant - Hidden Gem in Novena

Da Luca Italian Restaurant - Restaurant Front

Da Luca Italian Restaurant is located in Goldhill Plaza, the old pinkish building opposite Novena station. This is the last place I would expect to find a good Italian restaurant, which makes Da Luca Italian Restaurant an underrated gem.

Run by chef-owner Luca Pucciani and his wife, Da Luca Italian Restaurant serves classic and contemporary Italian cuisine.

Da Luca Italian Restaurant - Decor

The outside of the restaurant is not impressive-looking but step inside and it’s another story altogether.

Da Luca Italian Restaurant - Interior

The interior is cosy with cream-color walls alternating with brick walls. The bar near the entrance has an impressive collection of spirits and wines.

Black wooden tables lined with crisp white tablecloth paired with black wooden chairs give the restaurant a classic Italian feel. It reminds me of iO Italian Osteria.

Da Luca Italian Restaurant - The Food

This restaurant is famous for their Signature Capellini tossed in Truffle Emulsion [S$98] but it is too expensive.

Antipasti/Appetizers

Da Luca Italian Restaurant - Rucola Balsamico Con Pere E Parmigiano

We ordered Rucola Al Balsamico Con Pere E Parmigiano [S$16] which translates to Wild Rocket Salad with Pear Parmesan in Balsamic Dressing. The slight tanginess of the salad makes whets the appetite for the rest of the meal.

Da Luca Italian Restaurant - Parmigiana

For a hot appetizer, there is Parmigiana [S$26] which is oven-baked eggplant with mozzarella, basil and tomato sauce. It’s almost like a no-carbohydrate version of baked rice, with a nice touch of creaminess.

Da Luca Italian Restaurant - 300gm Burrata Con Spinach , Pomodorini E Riduzione Al Balsamico

You can never go wrong with 300gm Burrata Con Spinach, Pomodorini E Riduzione Al Balsamico [S$45]. The creamy Italian cheese pairs perfectly with spinach, Italian tomato and balsamic glaze.

Mains

Da Luca Italian Restaurant - Penne Al Granchio

Pasta is a staple in Italian cuisine, such as the simple Penne Al Granchio [S$34]. It’s easy to eat, with crabmeat to add a touch of luxury and tomato chilli sauce to give your palate a little heat.

Da Luca Italian Restaurant - Raviolo Di Carne Con Funghi E Panna

Ravioli Di Carne Con Funghi E Panna [S$30] looks a little sad with just 4 pieces of pasta pockets stuffed with pork sausage but the accompanying cream sauce makes up for it.

Da Luca Italian Restaurant - Wagyu Bistecca Alla Florentina Con Contorni

For the meat-lovers, there is Wagyu Bistecca Alla Florentina Con Contori [S$20]. The meat on wagyu T-bone steak is so tender, there is delicious marrow in the bone.

Da Luca Italian Restaurant - Pan-Fried Cod

Besides the items on the menu, Da Luca Italian Restaurant regularly offers off-menu dishes. There was melt-in-the-mouth Pan-Seared Cod Fish and crispy Roasted Pork on the day we were there.

Desserts

Da Luca Italian Restaurant - Tiramisu Di Luca

If you are not sure which dessert to order, Tiramisu Di Luca [S$18] is a good choice. The handwhipped mascarpone cream cheese is delightfully light, espresso taste is not too strong.

Da Luca Italian Restaurant - Fondente Al Cioccolato Con Gelato Al Pistacchio

Fondente Al Cioccolato Con Gelato Al Pistacchio [S$18] is not as oozy as I would have liked. The valehona chocolate is velvety smooth but the lava inside doesn’t really flow. Pistachio ice-cream is a nice change but I still prefer good old vanilla ice-cream.

PAUL

PAUL is a renowned family French bakery and patisserie founded in 1889. Bringing with them them the fine tradition of passion for food and French traditions, PAUL gives Singaporeans a glimpse into French culture and tradition through the delicious and visually-appealing pastries and food.       PAUL's Hot Chocolate is not as creamy as I would have liked it but every last drop is made with good-quality cocoa powder.     Lemon Tart With Meringue is not exactly my favourite dessert, but it looked so pretty that I decided to give it a try anyway. However, it proved to be too sour for my palette even with the beautifully flamed meringue.    Croque Madame is croque-monsieur (grilled ham and cheese sandwich) topped with a fried egg. Emmental cheese, cream and ham is sandwich in pain de eie and toasted till a rich golden brown colour. Topped with a fried egg with runny yolk, every bite is filled with delicious goodness.   Address and telephone n...

O'ma Spoon

Korean bingsu is a popular Korean dessert comprising of ice shavings and various ingredients such as sweetened condensed milk, fruit syrups, fresh fruits, Korean rice cake and ice-cream. Bingsu is all the craze in Singapore now and Korean bingsu cafes are popping up everywhere like wild mushrooms.                            Besides bingsu, this dessert cafe also serves usual cafe offerings such as coffee and tea. I have been told that their Signature Oven-Baked Honey Bread is very good. The flavours include Strawberry & Chocolate with Ice Cream, Banana & Chocolate with Ice Cream and Green Tea with Ice Cream.     I was told that   Mango Cheesecake Bingsu   is one of the most popular item on the menu. Oh my, it is a sight to behold! A bowl of shaved ice is topped with sweetened condensed milk and freshly-cut m...

Grandma's - Authentic Singapore Food

Grandma's has been around for quite a while now but I only got the chance to try their food recently when the third outlet opened in Suntec City.        I remember having these prawn crackers when I was little. They are so easy and good to eat, I can finish a whole package of this in one sitting.     I don't usually order Malay food, but the Nasi Bukhari looked so good in the menu, I thought I will give it a try. Fragrant yellow turmeric rice is served with golden brown chicken leg which is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prawns were fresh and succulent but I don't really like the sauce the prawns are cooked in. What really amazes me about this dish is the beef rendang.          I never knew Bo Bo Cha Cha is so such a delightful dessert until I tried it here at Grandma's. The warm and thick coconut tastes so good with chunks of sweet potato and yam. This is definitely comfort food that warms the heart.   Gr...
